The idea of permanent photography came to be before the 1800s. They wanted to get rid of the need to draw the image. They were trying to find a way to make photos last. I find this interesting because it means that if you took a photo, you would never see it again.
You used to have to carry around lots of glass sheets to take photographs because negatives used to be made from glass. This made photography much less portable because you had to safely pack the glass so it wouldn't break. This is interesting because it added a risk to photography that we don't have today.
